McKinley Park at street level
McKinley Park is the thirty two acre park at 601 Alhambra Boulevard, bounded by Alhambra, McKinley Boulevard, 35th Street, Park Way, 33rd Street and H Street, and it is also what people call the blocks around it. The Sacramento Street Railway Company built the grounds in 1871 to give riders a reason to take the line out here. The city bought it in 1902 and renamed it from East Park after President McKinley was assassinated. Inside are the 1928 rose garden, Lake Keisel, the Clunie Community Center and pool, a library branch and the Shepard Garden and Arts Center. The park joined the National Register in 2018. Surrounding houses are mostly 1910s through 1930s bungalows, Tudors and Colonial Revivals on modest lots, and Theodore Judah Elementary on McKinley Boulevard is a 1939 Art Deco building put up by the Public Works Administration.

This is the closest group geographically, and a fair number of them walk. The blocks around the park hold families with young kids who use the playground and the Clunie pool alongside owners who have been in the same bungalow for thirty or forty years. Kids come in for cleanings, tooth-colored fillings and the occasional playground injury. Parents ask about night guards, teeth whitening and Invisalign. Older neighbors need dental crowns, bridges, dentures and gum health care. Being two blocks off the park makes this an easy area to reach the office from when something breaks.

Drive note. From the McKinley Park blocks the office is a three to five minute drive, and an easy walk or bike ride for many neighbors.
Parking. Patient parking and the entrance are accessed via 33rd Street.

Transit, bikes, and parking from McKinley Park
You are close enough to walk. The office at 33rd and J is two blocks south of the park's H Street edge, about five minutes from the rose garden. Route 30 stops at J and 33rd in both directions, and Routes 67 and 68 run the 29th and 30th Street couplet a few blocks west. No light rail station serves this pocket. The 29th Street stop on the Gold Line is nearest, just under a mile south on R Street.
